How to get access to a credit union account after death?

There are several factors that play into how to get access to a credit union account after a death. If the account is joint account or is in a trust, it can be accessed by the joint owner or trustees. If that is not the case, it can’t be touched until the estate is settled in court unless a judge grants an executor or estate administrator access.

We offer our beneficiary members with the option to open a Legacy CD. The Legacy CD is designed to provide a flexible financial savings option for loved ones of deceased members at DMCU, offering a higher interest rate than a standard savings account. This product aims to support beneficiaries, joint account owners, or representatives during a transitional period. As your credit union, we are here to help you as you navigate through these difficult times. Learn more about DMCU’s Legacy CD here.
